What is open data?

Open data is becoming an increasingly important part of the open government movement. I will talk about what it is and why it is becoming increasingly important to citizens as we enter a new age of citizen engagement, collaboration and connectedness.

Herb Lainchbury is a citizen, programmer, entrepreneur and public service advocate based in Victoria, British Columbia. He is passionate about open data, open source software and works with organizations wanting to maximize their investments in computing technologies. He worked as a government employee for 16 years before choosing to become an independent consultant. He is the founder of OpenDataBC.ca and is the CEO of Dynamic Solutions Inc.
